My name is Ashley Bantz and I am the owner of Tidy Style, a full service professional organizing company. What started as an idea, has now become a reality and I am very happy to introduce Tidy Style to all of you!
Most of you who know me well are probably not surprised that I have created a professional organizing company. Everyone always says that you should find something that you love to do, and make that your job. Well, organizing is what I love to do, so here we are!
This is my first Tidy Style blog post, and I thought I would share with you a little bit about myself, and how the idea of Tidy Style came about.
I have had a passion for organizing my entire life. When I was little I was not like most other children. I spent a lot of time re-arranging, organizing, and cleaning my room and the house. In fact, I would not go to sleep at night until everything was put away in its place in my room. I never needed to be told to pick up my room, or my toys around the house, like most kids do. Some days, my mom would go to work or go run errands and when she came home my room would be completely re-arranged. Here I was this little 10 year old girl, moving her dresser and bed around in her room – a little odd, I know. I think early on my mom realized that this was not a phase that I was going through, and she was right because after all these years, I am still that organized little girl, all grown up.
As an adult, I would like to think I live a very organized life. Not only is organizing something that I love to do, it is also necessary for my sanity. When everything in my home is put away and clutter-free, my mind feels free, and it allows me to fully relax. I love nothing more than to come home from a stressful day at work, and everything is nice and, well…tidy!
I think there is a misconception out there where people think that in order to live an organized life, you have to spend all of your time cleaning, etc. and that by doing so you are missing out on doing other things that you enjoy to do. This simply is not the case. Yes, it may take a little time and effort up front to get organized (which, you guessed it, is where Tidy Style comes in), but maintaining organization is really not that difficult. When everything has a place, it is much easier to maintain organization.
I am not going to sit here and tell you that everything in my house is clean and tidy all of the time, because that is not true. Things do get messy and dirty, and at times there are piles of you name it lying around – that is life. After many years of trying for perfection, I realized that it is just too tiring and not possible for everything to be perfect all of the time. So now, what I try to do is take a little time each day to put things away where they belong and not let mess build up. Yes, being organized is something that you do have to work at, and put an effort into, but it is not impossible by any means. If you take the time and effort to get organized up front and work at it a little each day, it actually allows you more time to do the things that you enjoy on a daily basis because everything has a place, and you spend less time searching for items around your home and spending hours cleaning up days of messes.
I know what you may be thinking…it is easier said than done when you don’t have a family that you are constantly taking care of and picking up after. And you are right to some extent, as my family consists of my boyfriend Ryan and my dog Tucker – I don’t have kids to care for and pick up after, which does make things a bit easier. But I am a firm believer that organization is a learned behavior and that it starts with one person. Yes, it may take some training of the other members in your family, but I feel that if kids grow up in an environment where organization is practiced, it eventually becomes second nature to them as well and will ultimately help them with many aspects of their life, even into adulthood. My advice is to start small, and start with yourself. Once you get into the routine, you can bring the kids in on it and slowly make it a family affair. Get them involved, show them how easy it is, and set the standard of what is expected. Hold everyone accountable, even yourself, and don’t give up. Just like anything else, it takes practice.
My goal in creating Tidy Style is to help people realize that organization is possible, even for the busiest of families. It is not a matter of perfection, but rather a matter of making things work for your lifestyle. Tidy Style can provide you with the tools and help that you need to get organized in your home and life, and the coaching to help you maintain that organization on a daily basis.
